Free Image Splitter: Split a Photo into a Grid for Instagram Carousels

A panoramic photo that flows across several slides makes people keep swiping. A large image split into a 3x3 grid turns your profile into a single big picture. Both looks are popular on Instagram, but cutting the pieces by hand in an editor is slow and easy to get wrong.

The PromptCraft Studio Split Image into Grid tool does it for you. Upload a photo, choose how many columns and rows you want, preview the cut lines, and download equal-sized pieces, one by one or all together in a ZIP file. Everything runs directly in your browser, so your private photos are never uploaded to the internet.

Which layout should you choose?

LayoutPiecesTypical use
2 × 12A simple two-slide carousel with one wide photo
3 × 13The classic panoramic carousel that flows across three slides
2 × 24Four-piece puzzle carousels and small profile grids
3 × 39A full profile grid that forms one large picture

How to split an image into a grid

  1. Upload your image: Drag and drop a JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF file into the upload area. On a phone, tap the box to choose a photo from your gallery.
  2. Choose the grid: Tap a preset such as 3 × 1 or 3 × 3, or type your own number of columns and rows (up to 10 each).
  3. Pick a piece ratio: Instagram portrait 4:5 and square 1:1 crop your photo from the center so every piece has the right shape. Choose Auto if you do not want any cropping.
  4. Split and download: Click Split image, then download pieces individually or click Download all (ZIP). Files are numbered in order, left to right and top to bottom.

Tips for better carousels and grids

  • Start with a high-resolution photo: Each piece is only part of the original, so a larger source keeps every slide sharp.
  • Keep important details away from the cut lines: Faces and text look best when they sit fully inside one piece.
  • Upload in the right order: For a carousel, add the pieces in numbered order so the picture flows when people swipe.
  • Post a profile grid from the last piece to the first: New posts appear at the top left of your profile, so posting piece 9 first and piece 1 last builds the picture correctly.
  • Choose the right format: JPG keeps files small for uploading, while PNG keeps the highest quality.

100% Private and Secure

Many online image splitters send your files to their servers. This tool uses HTML5 Canvas to cut the image locally on your device, and even the ZIP file is created inside your browser. Your personal photos and unreleased designs stay private and are discarded as soon as you close or refresh the tab.
